Dear Mr Roozendaal,
I am writing to express my opposition to the current Energy Reform Proposal and associated sale of electricity assets.
The NSW electricity industry belongs to the people of NSW and the proposed reforms will remove control of this essential service from the NSW Government.
The NSW Government and Opposition both went to the last election promising the people of NSW they would not privatise electricity.
Neither party has gone to the electorate to seek a mandate to privatise the State’s electricity assets. We believe the current energy reform proposal is flawed and will result in: families and businesses in NSW paying more for their electricity; less reliable services for business and consumers; and decreases in rural and regional employment with jobs going off shore.
A similar deregulated electricity regime implemented in Alberta did not deliver lower prices nor did it deliver a more stable supply of electricity.
In fact, Albertans pay a premium price for their deregulated electricity while the deregulated system has meant it is now far more challenging to ensure the needs of electricity consumers for low prices and stable supplies are met.
Given these fundamental problems with the proposal we believe there is no advantage to the NSW taxpayers to persist with the current Energy Reform Proposal and we call on you and the NSW Government to ensure this essential service remains in Government control.
